The AirScape Lite Kitchen Canisters for Food Storage
At Planetary Design we are fascinated by the fact that airtight canisters are so prevalent in kitchens around the world. With an airtight canister you lock the lid down which locks all of the air inside and it can't get out. No way can you store and keep fresh anything that you put in here. So we created a true innovation in food storage called the AirScape. It has a double lid system with and air valve built into the inner lid and it's so effective you can hear it work. So as your contents lower, the inner lid lowers and whatever you.
Have inside is truly kept fresh. Our stainless steel version has enjoyed a lot of success with food and beverage coinnoisseurs around the country. Coffee roasters love it for coffee storage reporing that they have stored coffee for over a month that was equal to the day they roasted it. Others have used the AirScape to keep flour and brown sugar fresh for over 6 months. The only change requests have been more sizes and to develop a seethrough version. This has led us to create a sleek, modern design with the perfect balance of.
BPA in Food Containers What You Need to Know
Are you concerned about chemicals in plastic containers Bisphenol A, or BPA, is a chemical used in hard plastic food and drink containers such as the lining of canned foods, food storage containers and water bottles. The BPA from the container can be transferred to your food or drinks. BPA may affect hormones such as estrogen, which may lead to fertility problems and increase cancer risk in high doses. Health Canada says that the amount of BPA that most of us are exposed to from these containers is not enough to be a risk to our health.
Even though the amounts of BPA we are exposed to may be safe, it is a good idea to try to limit use of containers that have BPA. Even if a plastic container does not contain BPA, it's a good idea to follow these tips to limit your exposure to other chemicals that could transfer to your food. Choose glass, stainless steel or ceramic containers for storing food when possible. These don't contain BPA. If you are using a plastic container, you can find our whether or not it has BPA in.
It by 1 Looking for a label that says BPA free OR 2 checking the number or recycling code on the bottom of the container. The numbers 2, 4 or 5 mean it is BPA free. A trick to help you remember the numbers 5, 4 or 2, no BPA for you. A 3 ,7 or no number means the container may have BPA in it. Use canned foods less often or look for BPAfree on the label. Frozen foods are a great option because they are often frozen when they are freshest and.
The packaging doesn't contain BPA. If you use plastic containers to store food, avoid heating or freezing them, even if they are BPAfree. Very high or very low temperatures can cause BPA and other chemicals to move from the plastic into your food and drinks. Do not heat or freeze food in plastic, use a glass or ceramic container. If the food is hot, let it cool in a BPAfree container first before putting it in a container that may have BPA. For cleaning, wash plastic containers by hand, not in the dishwasher so the plastic.
Best Refrigerator Storage Containers
There is nothing worse than storing something in the refrigerator, only to open the refrigerator door later and find the food spilled all over the shelf, and dribbling down the walls of the refrigerator. It can be a challenge to find the best refrigerator storage containers, but with a little help you can do this. In today's kitchen markets there are a wide array of storage containers that are ideal for use in the refrigerator. One should look at these carefully and check for strong sealing lids and ease of use.
Stacking storage containers are ideal as they can nest inside of one another for storage and be brought out for use when needed. When using them it's nice to be able to stack them neatly in the refrigerator as well. Clear containers are preferred over solid colored ones so that the contents can be more easily seen by the user. This will help to prevent spoilage and remind the user to use things up before they go bad. When considering the best refrigerator storage containers to use one must also consider durability.
Using old margarine or butter containers might be able to get the user by for a time, but over time they give out and are more and more difficult to clean. Choosing containers that are durable and dishwasher safe will help to eliminate the need to continually replace such containers. The fact that they are dishwasher safe means that you will be able to sterilize them prior to use, so that residual foods will be removed completely from the container, thus preventing spoilage or cross contamination. Many of the best refrigerator storage containers to use are also microwave safe thus providing.
How to Make a BottleCap Party Whistle!
If you're at a party this summer and wanna grab someones attention, you could try charming the crowd with an improvised pan flute, or you could go for a more direct approach. In this project, we're turning bottle caps and drink cans, into sportsstyle party whistles, that'll give you the power you need, to summon the attention you deserve We're all familiar with the term lifehacks but this summer, the guys at mike's hard lemonade asked me to help put a refreshing twist on it with what they're calling mikehacks Mikehack basically a lifehack that makes any social occasion, more awesome.
I tried hot gluing some glass bottles together, and found that yes, they really can work as a pan flute. It's a pretty awesome idea, but can be pretty messy and take up a lot of space. So let's try making another kind of party favor, that's just as awesome, but a little easier to manage. We'll need to start this project with an empty aluminum drink can. Now if we use something like a pair of scissors to make some strategic cuts, we can harvest a lightweight sheet of aluminum metal. Now before you throw the scraps away, make sure you save a tab.
Or two, because we'll need those for measurements, in just a minute. Alright, let's cut a long narrow strip from the sheet metal, making sure the edges are as straight as possible, then cut a smaller, stubbier piece as well. You can see the long strip is the width of a single can tab, while the smaller piece is as wide, and as tall, as two pieces laid side by side. We need to join these pieces together with the smaller rectangle centered on top, about a quarter inch down from the end. The two.
Sides wrap around the back holding it in place, and now you can snip the top corners off, if you feel like it, and finish up by folding the tab over to lock everything together. We've just formed the mouthpiece for our whistle. Now let's grab the other end of the strip and push it back through the mouth piece, being careful not to bend it. You'll see what we're going to do with this, in just a minute. Alright, it's time to get busy with our bottle caps. I tried using a pair of scissors to snip the sides, and cut a little notch in.
Each cap, so when the two bottoms are lined up, they form a round container with a symmetrical hole at the top. Let's bring back the piece we made earlier and fit the barrel inside one of the caps, then expand it so it completely fills the inside. Now that we know it fits together nicely, we can line the inside of the cap with some hotglue, then place the rounded strip back in position. When the glue has hardened, it should look like this. Now this is the point where we form the noise maker. Carefully cut the strip so it lines.
Up with the top of the notch, then pull the scrap part out of the mouthpiece. There's only one thing left to do, and that's to add hotglue to the other cap, and press the two pieces firmly together, making sure the notches line up symmetrically. Now for one last embellishment, I tried cutting one of the tabs in half, and hotgluing it to the back, so now we have the option of adding a lanyard. That'll just make it fully accessible, anytime we want it. The whistle works by directing air through.
The mouthpiece, and splitting it over the sharp edge of the metal. Not only does it look good, but it actually sounds good too. If you try rolling your tongue when you blow, it'll sound a lot like a referee's whistle, and it's really, really loud. Well now you know how to convert your cans and bottle caps, into colorful and customizable party whistles, that'll summon you attention when you need it, and make a great conversation piece when you don't. Well that's it for now. If you liked this project, perhaps you'll like some.
